He brings extensive experience in implementing best practices of artificial intelligence, leveraging cutting-edge AI technologies to enable clients across key industries—including mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, and infrastructure—to optimize efficiency and achieve transformative outcomes.
We got in touch with Muharam Zamzam to hear his thoughts on driving digital transformation, leveraging emerging technologies, and aligning innovation with customer-centric growth, and here are his insights.
My motivation stemmed from observing the vast potential of Indonesia’s mining industry, which often still relied on conventional methods that tended to be less efficient, high-risk, and had gaps in data accuracy. I was driven to bring technological solutions that could change this paradigm, making mining operations safer, more efficient, and data-driven. Key steps began with a deep understanding of field needs, building a solid team of experts in technology and mining, and consistently demonstrating the tangible value (ROI) of every digital initiative we implemented.
We leverage these three technologies in an integrated manner. Our UAVs (Drones) are used for topographic mapping, monitoring mining progress, and inspecting infrastructure regularly with speed and coverage impossible to achieve manually. The visual and LiDAR data collected by drones is then processed by AI and Machine Learning to generate actionable insights. For example, AI analyzes images to accurately calculate stockpile volume, detects anomalies in heavy equipment for predictive maintenance, and monitors Safety and Health (K3) compliance. For customers, this means faster decision-making, lower operational costs, and increased safety levels—a truly transformative service experience.
The biggest challenges have been resistance to change and trust in digital data. Many stakeholders are accustomed to old methods and skeptical about the accuracy of technology. We overcome this with a measured proof-of-concept approach. We start with small-scale pilot projects that are low-risk but have clear, quickly visible benefits. By demonstrating measurable success, trust is gradually built. Intensive communication and training for the client’s team are also key to adopting this change.
Customer feedback is the compass for our solution development. We have structured mechanisms like quarterly review meetings and direct communication channels that make it easy for customers to provide input. Furthermore, our products are designed to generate feedback. For example, in our monitoring platform, there are features for customers to mark specific areas or provide notes directly on the data we present. This feedback is directly integrated into our product development cycle, ensuring our solutions continue to evolve according to real field needs.
The most important strategy is to be a problem-solving partner, not just a technology vendor. We don’t sell software or drones; we sell solutions to specific problems: increasing efficiency, reducing equipment downtime, or ensuring safety. Every technological innovation must be directly linked to the customer’s business metrics, such as increased productivity, cost reduction, or improved regulatory compliance. By focusing on this measurable value, technological innovation automatically aligns with delivering an exceptional customer experience.
A concrete example is in stockpile management. The client’s pain point was the inaccuracy of material volume data, leading to financial losses from stock discrepancies. We implemented regular drone mapping, and the photogrammetric data was analyzed by a specialized AI algorithm. The AI not only calculated volume with 99% accuracy but also identified material movement patterns and detected abnormal erosion or settlement. As a result, the client could optimize logistics, minimize material loss, and take preventive actions for stockpile stability—a solution that truly transformed how they manage assets.
One of our clients faced challenges in monitoring the progress of post-mining land reclamation, which is a very strict regulatory obligation. Manual methods took weeks and the data was difficult to verify. We implemented a UAV and AI solution that could monitor the area, vegetation growth, and soil conditions monthly with standardized reports. This initiative not only helped the client meet their regulatory obligations with solid data evidence but also built trust with the government and local communities. This client satisfaction was proven by the extension of our contract for 3 years and the expansion of cooperation to other operational areas.
We adopt a Value-Based Prioritization approach. Each potential project is evaluated based on two main criteria:
1. Business Impact: How much the project affects the client’s core business metrics (cost reduction, revenue increase, risk mitigation).
2. Level of Client Need: How urgent and critical the pain point being addressed is for the client. Projects with high impact and high need become the top priority. This approach ensures our resources are allocated to initiatives that provide the greatest value, both for the client’s business and for our partnership.
The key to collaboration is creating integrated teams. Our technology engineering teams do not work in isolation; they often go to the field with the operations team to understand the real context and challenges. Conversely, the operations team is involved in the product development process. We also use collaboration platforms that centralize communication and data. Furthermore, regular inter-departmental meetings ensure all parties share the same vision of the end goal: delivering value to the customer.
Our principle is “Complexity behind the scene, simplicity in the front”. Even though the technology behind our services is very complex (such as machine learning algorithms and cloud data processing), the interface provided to the end-user must be simple, intuitive, and easy to use. We conduct rigorous User Acceptance Testing (UAT) with users of varying technical abilities. Their feedback is essential for simplifying workflows and ensuring that technological innovation actually makes their jobs easier, not harder.
Some of our best practices include:
I am actively involved in the global technology ecosystem through international conferences, webinars, and academic journals related to AI and autonomous systems. Internally, we allocate time and resources for Research & Development (R&D) and encourage a culture of experimentation. Trends like Edge Computing for faster data processing at mine sites or Generative AI for creating automatic narrative reports are some areas we are exploring. We do not immediately adopt every new trend but critically assess it based on its relevance to the problems of the mining industry in Indonesia before integrating it into our strategic roadmap.
Muharam Zamzam’s journey illustrates how vision, resilience, and a customer-first mindset can turn challenges into opportunities in industries traditionally resistant to change. By combining AI, machine learning, and UAV technologies, he has not only modernized mining operations but also demonstrated the power of digital transformation in driving safety, efficiency, and trust. His value-based approach ensures that every innovation directly impacts client business metrics, while his emphasis on collaboration, transparency, and simplicity guarantees long-term partnerships built on measurable success.
As the mining sector continues to evolve, Muharam’s leadership serves as a testament to how technology, when paired with strategic foresight and customer-centric execution, can unlock transformative growth and set new benchmarks for operational excellence.
